DBS check
Reminder that if anyone is visiting school either in a paid or unpaid capacity who:
  • has the potential to come into unsupervised contact with children or
  • is in regulated activity with children

an Enhanced DBS with children’s barred list check is required unless the visitor is being escorted at ALL times by a member of school staff (being escorted means at breaks/lunch up to the toilet facilities etc.).

Please note there are other types of DBS checks which don’t offer this level of checking so don’t assume that someone with a DBS has the correct level of checks as it could be a Basic or Standard DBS check.
Visitors who are working with students in regulated activity or have the potential to come into unsupervised contact with students must present the original enhanced DBS disclosure certificate to school along with photo ID.  Please ensure a member of the office team have verified the DBS and checked photo ID.
Enhanced DBS certificate disclosures of criminal offences must be flagged to the senior line in order for a risk assessment to be conducted which will take into account the seriousness of any offence and relevance to the role in school; how long ago the offence occurred; circumstances around the incident etc.
Volunteers – all volunteers must go through Lindsay Taylor as a matter of course for the relevant DBS to be checked/verified and volunteering induction undertaken.
IF IN DOUBT PLEASE ASK OR ESCORT!
